the last pair, looking very puzzled, wanted to know "what's a pagan?" an older religion than yours, i said. and after they left realized a better answer would be: the people who gave you your ideas for holidays.

For when we buy a house. (Right now, we're in a secured condo building. If they don't have a key, they're not getting in.)

Get a sign that says, "Please preach, the lions out back are getting hungry."

as important and personal as religion with strangers.
They usually blink at me, and then ask if they can leave their leaflets. Then I tell them, as polite as you please, that of course not. For some reason, they get really confused by that.
A couple of weeks ago, around 7:30 in the evening, these two pre-teens rang our bell, from a nearby baptist church. I was shocked that a church would send pre-teen girls around after dark. Ours isn't a "bad" neighborhood, but we have our share, like all neighborhoods do.

I tend now to use that as well, but only if they're pushy, because I just don't enjoy talking with these people, anymore. I used to sometimes like to get into it with them, but I guess am getting old, and it's kinda pointless. I also use it with people that know me but can't really be considered my "friends"; I'll just say that it's too personal and I only talk with people that I know share my values. Using the "values" word often freaks them out, and usually it stops the attempted evangelizing. Mostly I just say "thank you, but I'm not interested" and then begin to close the door. Fortunately, I only get these kinds of visitors about twice a year.

I normally find a 30 minute chat enough to ensure they never come back...
