| A question for the herbalists, if there are any here |
|
I don't recall any discussions of herbalism here, so I'm guessing there aren't many, or any, herbalists here, but I'll give it a try.
Epimedium (AKA "horny goat weed") is a Chinese herb. I'm trying to find out what the difference is between epimedium sagittatum and epimedium grandiflorum. Most supplement products seem to contain e. grandiflorum but most research seems to use e. sagittatum, as far as I can tell from brief googling. I'm wondering if it's worth looking for one variety specifically.

| 1. from "Chinese Herbal Medicine |
|
Materia Medica"-
"Pharmaceutical name: Herba Epimedii
Botanical name: Epimedium grandiflorum Morr., Epimedium sagittatum (Sieb. et Zucc.) Maxim or Epimedium brevicornum Maxim,
Literal English Translation: Licentious Goat Wort"
It would appear they are different names for the same plant. Two different names are listed for it in Mandarin but only one name is listed for it in both Japenese and Korean.
