| Changing religion from within |

I am always amazed by this frame of mind. Why do people think that this is a strategy that will work? Do they think that the Catholic church is the same as their local PTA?
I received this response from A LOT of people when the new pope was chosen. My post basically said that it should have been a surprise that someone who is a mainline Catholic was chosen. My thought was that if you don't like the club, you should quit. Many people acted like the Catholic view on transubstaniation would change if they worked hard enough.
If people don't like tenets of a religion, why don't they find a different one that matches up more closely with them rather than support something they dislike? I guess I have it nice since I have joined a UU fellowship. This is mostly for my 9-year-old son who was in need of something just because of who he is.
Anyway, just popped into my head when I was skimming through the "you are wrong" thread.
