I've run across yet another Christian who actually defends the "cafeteria religion" concept of Christianity. Accept what you like, jettison what you don't, even if it's in the same chapter of the same book of the Bible.
Strange religion they've got, isn't it?

| 3. well, you do have the various elements of Judaism |
|
Orthodox, Reform, etc., who all apply differing levels of the Torah.
But I think Christians are the worst, because they all try to look like a unified front, when really they're not. It's all just make it up as you go along, and they feel superior about it? Pshaw.

| 2. Well, lots of the Bible is flatly contradictory. |
|
"An eye for an eye" vs "turn the other cheek", to take a crude example. So you have to be a bit a la carte.

It's fun to watch them explain why, though. You start hearing things like "interpretation" and "allegory" and "symbolism". Funny, though, the existence of God and Jesus are never allegorical or symbolic.

| 16. The Bible has been written and re-written by man to fit his own needs |

and that's why you have certain Xians out there who believe that their version is the more "righteous" one. It's the one thing that really confused me and turned me off to Xianity...particularly the whole hypocrisy of it all.

If you complain about a so-called christian like Phelps to another xian, he'll invariably say "well, Phelps isn't a "True Chrisatian™"... and of course, according to these Baptists/Protestants, Catholics aren't "Christians", etc... but as soon as you start talking about worldwide numbers, they sure as hell like to include all sects/denominations etc so they can say "Christians make up "X%" of the world's population"....

Them: "There's 4 billion Christians in the world.. they can't all be wrong"
Me: "Yeah, but 3 billion of them are Catholics, and we know they aren't "True Xians™".. half-a-billion are JWs and/or Morman, the remaining half-billion is divided up between 7th Dayers, Pentecostals,Lutherans, etc.. which leaves Youand the 100 or so zombies who go to your mega-plex church every sunday as the only "True Xians™". Can such a small number be right?"
