Jeebus, I'm getting sick of this guy. He just won't quit.
A Call for Peace in the Science/Faith BattleHis call for "peace" isn't some sort of detente, but a one-sided surrender. Once again, he finger-wags
solely at the "new atheists" for causing strife. Without them, there could be comity and we could get on with the important business of science. The man literally, and I mean literally, had to have been born yesterday.
If you hear a scientist criticize religion, Chris wants you to call him and ask him why it isn't enough just to agree on the facts of science. Really. As usual, there's no concomitant charge to call religionists who block science funding, wreck science education, and pollute the popular understanding of science with distortions. There
never is with this concern troll.
To this end, President Obama's appointment of a scientist and man of faith, Francis Collins, to head the National Institutes of Health was a step in the right direction. Let us hope that it is only the beginning.
Here's Mooney's ignorance and naivete in full bloom. In what way is this "a step in the right direction"? Is there a dearth of religious political appointees that only Mooney is aware of? The only problem it fixes is one he's imagined, a need for rapprochement with beleaguered religionists. The objection to Collins isn't because he's a believer, it's because he's a proselytizing idiot who actively looks for ways to cram his religion into science.
For some 20-ton irony, check out the topic of Mooney's
newest book.
I used to like this guy. Not so much anymore.
