Trek trivia
Watching "Mirror, Mirror" and I noticed something I hadn't noticed before.

There is a scene where the Alternate Spock and Kirk are discussing alt-Checkov's punishment and the fate of the planet they are orbiting. Behind Kirk and Spock are alt-Kirk's personal guards, one of them is a Vulcan.

I don't recall seeing another Vulcan as a crew member of the Enterprise (the home universe Enterprise I should say) in the original series. Was there ever a Vulcan on the Enterprise crew besides Spock in the Original Series?

1. Not on-screen directly...
But then, Khan knew of Chekov in ST2 as well...

And the lady of the week who was new on 'our' Enterprise had been with alternate-Kirk for some time in the alternate universe.

In any case, 'tis good to see more Vulcans around. :)

2. No
The Vulcans in 'our' universe were largely pacifists, preferring to serve as diplomats or aides within the Federation rather than joining Starfleet's expeditionary force. (Remember, Spock and his father Sarek had a big falling out over Spock joining Starfleet.)

The alt-universe Vulcans had more in common with their warlike cousins the Romulans so you'd expect to see more of them in the fleet.

3. I also wonder if in the mirror universe
that for Vulcans serving in the Imperial Starfleet was one of the few methods open to gain any sort of social advancement within the Empire. Vulcans were subjugated and defeated by the mirror Captain Archer, and were brought into the Empire as slaves, but perhaps had gained second class subject status by the time of the mirror Kirk.
