Joss Whedon, who had been developing a big-screen adaptation of DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman for Warner Brothers and Silver Pictures, parted ways with the studio and production company on the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly) announced the news on Feb. 2 on the Whedonesque.com fan Web site.

"I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked," Whedon wrote. "Hey, not that complicated. Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don't think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views."

Pity. I probably would have liked Whedon's version.

2. Good Lord. I had no idea.

I knew that movie had morphed about a hundred times and took forever to come out, but I had no idea all that was going on.

I am also disappointed to learn that that crazy J.J. Abrams script we saw was REAL. I was always under the impression that the guy had some talent. It makes me very nervous that he's working on the next Star Trek movie.

3. I think he's off the next Trek movie, but in regards to Superman...

... the movie we got (which I personally thought was fanstastic) was started from scratch, written, cast, and produced very quickly.

The NEXT one (and I have heard a really cool rumor on the plot) will be incredible.

4. I think that Superman Returns had some serious flaws

Chief among them was the love story, which took far too much screen time and forced us to witness the super-creepy image of Kal-El as super-voyeur.

The ending also dragged on too long, in no small measure because of the baggage entailed by the above.


I liked the movie nonetheless, and it was clearly far superior to at least two of the four Reeve films. I found the cast to have been well chosen and the effects to be magnificent, not to mention the sheer thrill of witnessing some of his super-stunts once again.

It's a little choppy here and there from having been pieced back together, but the fight scene above Metropolis and the Fortress scenes (when he gives up being Superman then returns to get his powers back) are soooo much better than the theatrical cut shown in '81.

The ones whom I heard were going to be playing the part would have ruined the movie...

Catherine Zeta Jones should play WW and Linda Carter should play here mother..Its perfect.

9. Whedon has a certain style...

His script editing in "Roseanne" season 2 is rather good.

"Buffy" and "Angel", while not quite my style, were solidly written and produced.

"Firefly" is simply perfect.

I would have given his "Wonder Woman" a chance. The 70s version (season 1) is kitchy and good; season 2 (before the CBS network demanded more aliens, robots, and other B.S.) was good, and season 3 (and 2/3rds of season 2 thanks to aliens, robots, and other B.S.) sucks.
