| David Brin's 'Glory Season'--Spoilers within |
|
Just finished it. First Brin book I've read. I just happened to pick it up someplace--can't recall where--probably at a used bookstore for cheap.
Anyway, I enjoyed it. I thought it was a good move to have Maia set out on her own, though a bit of the plot was a little incredulous in that she goes from being this sheltered kid to this super-ninja in a relatively short time.
The premise was interesting, though, especially in light of the current democratic primary. I couldn't help thinking about all the jokes comedians used to make about how mellow things would be with a woman as president, except for one week a month. The book certainly lays out that women can be ... well, as 'male' as men are.
Sorry for the ramble. Anyone else who read it want to share thoughts?

| 1. Man, It's been years since I read it, but I am going through the Uplift series |
|
...Again! Probably on my 7th or 8th time through on those books. Possibly my favorite science fiction series of all time. You should pick up Sundiver next, it's the first book in the Uplift saga series (Sundiver, Startide Rising, The Uplift War, Brightness Reef, Infinity's Shore, and Heaven's Reach). The galactic cultures he has created in that series are among the most fascinating I've ever come across.
If you don't want to dive into a series just yet, I also highly recommend Kiln People, Earth and The Postman (just put the Costner film right out of your mind, forget it ever happened).

| 2. I have Earth on my bookshelf, but not sure I want to read it right now |

I'm trying to lay off the doomsday stuff.
I actually just started Peter Hamilton's 'The Dreaming Void.' It's massive, and I've got a lot going on at the moment, so it'll probably keep me occupied for a while.
