| Why do some people spell it "tee vee?" |
|
I've never seen it spelled that way before DU, and I don't think I've seen it spelled that way in this forum. Is it supposed to be cutsie? Or is it a reference to something?

| 1. My dad's family spells it that way |

my mom's doesn't. I think it is a local/family thing. If you've seen it spelled that way, especially by someone you respect/in a position of authority (like a teacher) then that is how you'll spell in the future.
Other variations in my family: t-shirt and tee shirt; v-neck and vee neck; pop and soda; and the pronouncation of "wash", as in "Washington" or "washing". My mom's family always adds an "r" in "wash", so it comes out "I warshed the dishes the other night." It took me a long time to drop the non-existent "r".

among others draw it out like that. I usually saw tee vee when I am ticked at programming or false news and such... otherwise it is TV :)
