OK. I think I'm on season 5 now. Either this season or last when the Speaker took over for Bartlet it was John Goodman. Now, the Speaker is some Haffley guy. Wouldn't the Speaker who took over for POTUS go back to being Speaker? I'm confused about this. Also, in the episode I just watched last night Bartlet and Haffley go at it on the budget and in the end they come out with an agreement, not just a continuing resolution. Bartlet describes how they both agreed on it but for the life of me I couldn't understand it. Did Jeb still get deductible tuition? If so, how? Thanks.

3. From what I remember

the speaker had to resign in order to become president. They even remind him of that and he makes a comment that implies that he might run for president instead of the House the next time. But you also get a sense that he did it for the good of the country.

I remember how they forced Haffley's hand on the budget, because he kept the president waiting when he went to the House to hammer out a deal. (The president got really good press and Haffley looked like an idiot.) Is that what you're thinking of? And I do believe they get deductible tuition eventually but I can't remember if it is in that particular budget. I think there was at least one time that they had to let it go but that might have been in earlier budget negotiations before Haffley screwed up.

4. Longhorn in 100% correct on the speaker

In the last season, Alan Alda's Character won the repuplican nomination and Goodman's character was never seen, but was referred to as one of the people he went up against.

I do not think they ever mentioned the resolution of the tuition issue.
