Tonight just might be Bob Crowley's night.
Beginning at 8 p.m., millions of people around the nation will be able to watch the 57-year-old physics teacher from South Portland compete for the $1 million grand prize on the CBS reality show "Survivor."
He steamrolled his way into the finals by winning four consecutive challenges – physical and mental competitions – against his younger competitors.
He's been on the show since September, and has established himself as someone who can scavenge for food, build shelter and out-think competitors. His performance has his friends and co-workers thinking he's got a great shot to win tonight.
"He's becoming the star of the show, and I'm not surprised. He's smart and agile and everything else they're saying about him," said John Caterina, a chemistry teacher at Gorham High School, where Crowley also teaches. "Having watched every episode with my kids, I've got this funny feeling he'll go all the way."
