| Survivor Tocantins: Episode 5 Discussion Thread |
|
Sorry I missed doing another one. My home PC is dead and I was out of the office most of Friday, so I never got to post this.
Overall it was a very good episode. I think it was a mistake to get rid of Spencer, but we will see how this all plays out. I kep waiting for the secret alliance to get outed, but I think it was overplayed in the promos, go figure. I think Taj may have made a mistake in giving Steven the idol. I hope it does not come back to haunt her. I am growing to liek Taj a lot. She seems really nice.
That first challenge was crazy. the dizzy walking game. I thought they should have just made them drink a beer and then spin with a bat like we did back in high school. Gotta love the Charmin product placement. If only that would mean less commercials. Yet again JT shows he is the best athlete on his tribe. Why coach did not offer to do it, since he can do everything, is beyond me.
I wonder is Spencer's homosexuality and his desire to keep it secret made it harder for him to bond with his tribemates. If it did, thats sad, that he never came out and tried to see how it would all play out. Anyway, the merge is comign soon I think.

This episode more than any other so far reminded me that there's so much we don't see. Spencer clearly felt uncomfortable revealing his homosexuality. Now, that may just be how he is, but I'll bet there's more behind it. JT does strike me as the type to have a problem with something like that (and I realize I may be being unfair to JT since I don't know anything about him but I think that message was there in the editing, too). If he's the power in that tribe Spencer probably had a reason. It's a shame--he seems like a nice kid.
The other thing that reminded me that there's so much we don't see is Taj's little meltdown. I honestly didn't see the reason for it, which makes me think something more had to have happened during that challenge that we didn't see. Or else I missed something. People get mad for losing, but I thought her reaction was over the top. I also think she made a big mistake giving away that immunity idol. You just don't do that in the way she did it--you hang onto it until you're sure, and then you play it strategically. Granted, she was able to say she did not have the idol at tribal and not lie, but still. I just about chocked on my taco when I watched her just hand that idol over like it was nothing.
Next week, it looks like it's Coach's turn to act out. Should be fun!

| 2. I was disappointed in Spencer going |

I just didn't understand why. Sure, his performance at the immunity challenge wasn't the best but he's done well in the past, right? I was especially sad to see him go because he (IIRC) was the big Survivor fan. But if Spencer hadn't gone, I don't know who I would have wanted to go in his place so it doesn't really matter in the end. I don't really care to see anyone go except Coach.
I like Taj a lot but I do have to admit that I would have laughed if Steven wouldn't give her the idol back. Besides Coach there isn't really anyone I dislike this season. Well, Sydney is kind of a nonentity for me, but I digress. It is kind of nice not really hating or rooting for (besides my pick Brendan) a bunch of people -- it makes it more fun to watch and more fun when someone is blindsided or backstabbed because I like pretty much all of them.
The dizzy challenge reminded me of Wipeout on ABC. Did anyone see that show over the summer? Wipeout reminds me of the show MXC (I think the real version is called Takeshi's Castle in Japan). Anyway, one of the challenges involves spinning everyone and then they have to make there way across some water using various obstacles.
Sorry to hear about your computer, Strangelove. One of the hard drives on my home computer just died and I hadn't backed up in forever. Lots of pictures on that drive so I had to send it off to see if anyone can recover my files. Also sorry about this post, I just kind of rambled about nothing. It made sense in my head!

to have no PC at home. I feel like I am missing so much without internet access. We are saving a little bit out of each paycheck and going to dip into the savings to buy a pretty basic dell for about $500.
