I was trying to get to Dish tech support during a football game. I got the wrong number, dialed 888 instead of 800 and got Direct tv. I didn't know it wasn't Dish until after several minutes. The salesman said I could save a lot of money on my satellite bill plus they would give me a $100 credit card.It seems a nasty trick, but I thought everyone should know about it.

Having had both services in my life, I think DirectTV's tech support/service is better. They certainly know how to treat their long term clients. I've had it for nearly ten years and they give me annual free movies and three month runs of a premium for free. I upgraded to HDTV and in addition to the equipment and the service call to install it being free, they gave me Stars/Encore for 6 months for free and I did not even ask for anything. Anyway, sorry if the 888/800 trick seemed tricky to you, but DirectTV is alright in my book.

| 2. in our area Dish is a lot less expensive than Directv. |

It's also cheaper than the one cable TV provider here.
We've rarely had to call tech support, and when we did we called the local Dish people because it was an equipment malfunction. They brought us out a new DVR and that fixed that.
My only complaint-- or warning-- would be to steer clear of all the promotional gimmicks Dish lets get attached to subscribing to them. You know, the free stay in Florida or the free stereo system, free gasoline, etc. It's all worthless JUNK! Just take the dish service and leave the rest of it alone. It is contracted out to another company that I think is irresponsible and will rip you off.
