Description: Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and Co-Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) have announced a Full Committee hearing on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in Room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building on S. 1114, the Clean Sports Act, and S. 1334, the Professional Sports Integrity and Accountability Act . These bills were introduced by Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jim Bunning (R-Ky.), respectively, and both measures would mandate federal drug-testing standards for major professional sports organizations. Senator McCain will chair the hearing, and Senator Bunning will be invited as a guest member of the Committee for the purpose of the hearing. At this hearing, the Committee will hear testimony from leaders of the major U.S. professional organizations, and consider whether the existing drug-testing policies of these organizations effectively deter their athletes from using dangerous performance-enhancing substances.
