Action Alert: Morning Sedition

I don't know how many of you all listen to Morning Sedition on AAR. It's what I wake up to every morning, and I love that they can always coax a laugh out of me.

Marc Maron announced Monday that his contract was not being renewed. Evidently Danny Goldberg, the guy who has the say in hiring and firing, just didn't want to exercise his second year option.

Some people don't like the show, and everyone's entitled to their opinion, of course. (I read a comment in GD the other day from someone who said the show had too much humor, and that jokes get in the way of "our agenda." :scared: Sounded like the Soviet Union to me). I can't take too much agenda at 7am, myself.

But if you care, please send an encouraging email to [e-mail]. This morning Maron said there had been such an overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world that they were reconsidering the decision. If we keep it up mnaybe we can get them to keep the show going.

4. I like Morning Sedition as well

It's on the radio every day during my morning commute. I was really disappointed when I heard they were getting rid of it.

6. AAR can really suck sometimes

I don't get morning sedition, but I was so upset, actually in tears when they cancelled Unfiltered w/ Rachel Maddow. That's who I woke up to, that got me to and thru the election. Rachel is the best, and then they replaced her with Jerry Springer! barf.

Then they stopped broadcasting on Sirius completely.
AAR is all we've got, and they continue to ruin a good thing.

Who are they going to replace Marc with?

8. Unsure.

This morning Marc was more upbeat - all the emails have made them reconsider, so who knows? All I know is, it's not about the money. This guy is the same guy who dumped Unfiltered for Springer, so you might throw that into your email as well.

I think they way underuse Rachel Maddow - she's a huge asset. I met her in person at a dinner a year ago, and she's lovely. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is nice as can be, and what a sharp mind!!!

This group has such excellent taste (it so closely matches my own...)

I e-mailed Danny "Idiot" Goldberg (yep, I still remember his unconscionable cancellation of Unfiltered!) on Monday, as soon as I heard Marc talk about his maybe not being on the show anymore. Loved the "last" (let's hope not!) live show this morning.

Sometime around September of '04, Morning Sedition became one of the best shows on AAR, maybe on the radio, thanks to the incredible chemistry and balance between Maron and Riley, and the thought of its just being casually thrown away is more than I can bear. I was so excited when they came to do a live show in my very neighborhood at the Someday Cafe. I have to say, for a neurotic mess, Marc Maron was surprisingly hot! And Kent Jones was HILARIOUS.

I signed the petition, too -- looks like it's accruing signatures at an amazing rate!

They have really evolved into a nice unit. I think the skits are funny. I love Marc the Shark and Lawton Smalls. (Kent Jones is amazing. What a talent.)

When an injustice is about to be done, when an outrage is about to be perpetrated, I become infused with the spirit of Emile Zola and raise my fist in protest.

Therefore I cannot remain silent over the impending removal of Marc Maron from Air America's Morning Sedition.

The problem? Word is that Air America major supremo Danny Goldberg doesn't like the show, doesn't like Marc as an on-air personality, doesn't "get" Marc's or the show's humor, and wants to crumple the program up into a wastepaper ball and chuck it into the basket.

Now Danny Goldberg may have many fine qualities. I sort of liked the book he did a bit back about how the Democrats had lost youth appeal. But he's not a radio guy, and if he can't find the funny in Marc, Lawton Smalls, and Sammy the Stem Cell, he needs to hire a psychic detective to locate his missing sense of humor.

Can anything be done to keep Morning Sedition going and prevent Marc from being pushed into the cold wintry streets of a town without pity?

Should you decide to petition these gentlemen in support of Marc, Mark and Morning Sedition, be concise, polite, and positive. Don't go wailing like a bunch of Freepers. Love-bomb them with eloquence and enthusiasm.

Because a world without Sammy the Stem Cell is a world that might as well stop revolving.
