AAR is no longer in Phoenix.
Some Christian music station bought them out.

This is just like what I said in another thread, about the left-wing talking heads not coming out to defend Kerry against the negative campaigning. Finally had a media outlet to pump us up, promote the democratic agenda, and now *poof* it's gone. Az really could have turned blue.

| 1. Isn't there an effort to get another station to get AAR? |
|
Ed Schultz covered this today on his show. I thought I heard that the station manager was trying like hell to get another station because AAR had been a success in Phoenix. (And you can get the live stream until they get another station.)
Don't give up! AZ can still turn blue. And there are always obstacles for those of us on the progressive end of the spectrum. Always. But don't give up, things change.

| 3. there's sooooo many stories out there. |
|
It was a lack of funding, then they got the funds. I think the main thing was finding a station. One station had a weak signal, the other was over-priced. The station manager fought until the end. And then it just came out that the locals on the air were not even getting paid! They did it for free - for us.
It just makes me so angry that some wealthy democrat in this metropolitan city couldn't have come in and taken care of business, as an investment if nothing else. How can dems be so stupid? Don't they realize how important the media is for us? We have no one fighting for us on tv - except Keith. We have huge elections here in November. It makes no sense. There is nothing even comparable on the radio. All Hannity wannabe's, sports, and Christian broadcasting.
I imagine there will be alot of restlessness in this town. Little by little, things are going to brew. AAR was a huge success here.
Sorry - I'm rambling now...

| 12. We have also lost Access Phoenix. We now have NO access to television. |
|
This is actually illegal as the public OWN the airwaves. Our Democratic Television Show ,Politically Speaking, will no longer be on the air as of April! And guess who did that to us? Our wonderful "Democratic" Mayor and the Democratic members of the City Council, who we helped put in office by appearances on our show! I am so angry about a number of things I could spit.

| 2. If you can shell out $12.99 a month, get XM radio |
|
You need to buy the actual radio in addition. And if you pre-pay for three years, the rate is $9.99 a month. You can get this refunded if you cancel, and it locks in your rate.
We're really please with ours, because Milwaukee doesn't carry AAR at all, and I could only listen online before. And there are tons of other stations, of course. Great music and radio drama and stuff. :)

Well at least I can listen to Ed, and maybe even check out Howard.
Funny - I got Sirius when they took Rachel Maddow off the air in the mornings. Then they took AAR off of Sirius, but that was okay, still had it in on the radio, even w/o Rachel. Grrr - do you think this is my Karma? Whatever I did - I'm sorry, just give me back my liberal talk radio. :P

But I am going to switch to XM. (Cuz they also have baseball and Sirius has football and I like baseball better.)
We have AAR in Boston, but on the solar powered station. It was hell trying to get the station in in Dec Jan when we have the least amount of daylight. I am hoping the station boosts their signal soon.

| 8. Yeah, solar-powered is about right |
|
I can't get the Boston AAR station after dark. Sometimes I can't get it when I take a left, but I can if I take a right. The Atlanta station is coming loud and clear down here, though.

| 9. I can't hear it after dark either, |

which means I hardly ever get to hear Randi's show. It starts getting fuzzy around the end of Ed Schultz every night, and varies wildly in the car.

| 10. Well, it's when you are turning "to the right", |

Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 11:06 AM by karynnj
that you most need AAR to keep you in the right place! :)
Sorry, for the lame joke.
I can't get the AAR station from NYC, about 40 miles away, after dark - because of a loud Indiana RW station.

You might like them. I listen to them every once in a while and they're pretty cool.

| 6. Malloy just talked about this on his show with a caller |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 11:35 PM by FreedomAngel82
The caller told how he was personally a Christian (like me!) and he's so disgusted with how they are and Malloy and he talked about how they're buying up all these stations. Here in my town we have so much conservative talk radio it drives me nuts. And at night I can't even pick up the local progressive network we have! Thank goodness I can stream online and I got a podcast subscription to Stephanie Miller's show for Christmas from my dad. What's really sad and funny is I can pick up a station in Ohio but they don't play Malloy live. They have Lionel (who is pretty good and I enjoy from time to time) and than only Malloy for the last hour. :eyes: So that's cool for when I'm relaxing in a bath or something.
