| My grandmother has received an exit visa! |
|
For 20 years, my now 83 year-old grandmother has applied for an exit visa to come to America and visit her children and grandchildren, and for 20 years her application has been denied by Fidel Catro's government; her only 'crime', in their eyes; was her obstinate refusal to either divorce or denounce my 'politically unreliable' grandfather. With my grandfather's death last year, this impediment has apparently disappeared, and she now has in her possession that most precious document. She will fly to Toronto, and thence to Miami some time next week. I will fly to Miami next weekend to meet her face-to-face for the first time in my life, a privilege I was denied with my grandfather.
Please join with me in offering thanks to God for this most wonderful news:
Most Gracious and Merciful Father, it is with a joyful heart that I humbly offer You thanks today for this most wonderful gift in my family's life. St. Michael, who watches over me in all things, I would ask that you watch over and protect my grandmother as she journeys here to be reunited with her family. Most Blessed Virgin, Mother of Jesus, rejoice with me and with all your children on this most wonderful day.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

She hasn't seen her mother in almost 40 years, in which time my abuela has gone from a young to an old woman, and mom from a girl to middle age.

May the lord bless her and let her trip be safe and your reunion happy. We ask this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I'm happy for you. That is quite a plane flight, from Cuba to Miami by way of Toronto. Such is politics.

Tony, one of my favorite foods when I'm in Tampa (my old hometown --and BTW, I have a Cuban sister-in-law), are bollitos. A Puerto Rican friend says bollitos can be made in various ways but the ones we always got in Ybor City were made of black-eyed pea meal, with onion or garlic added, and they were soooooooooo good!
If you have those in Miami, eat a few for me! But first kiss your abuela and tell her I and everyone in the Catholic Group say "Hola!"
Have a great, great time with all the family! :grouphug:
