| 1. Nor is it Christian, nor in line with Catholic teaching |

It is the reaction of the bigot passing the beaten man on the road and feeling virtuous. But we are called to be the Samaritan who stops and spends our own money to see he is taken care of.
"What you did to the least of these, you did to Me." Those people risking being sent off as goats and I don't mean in this life...

Our own bishop has condemned such 'legislation' in no uncertain terms, has also roundly denounced anti-gay bigotry and called attacks on GLBT persons 'hate crimes'.

It is not reflective of Catholicism, Christianity or any standard of moral behavior.
I have to keep in mind that every group or religion has its "nut" wings, who distort a message to serve their own purposes...

| 5. What happened to "Love one another as I have loved you."? |
|
It is not "Love those who only promote your children's moral value as a strict-father figure in the world. Gays and lesbians are bad, as well as any person different than you. Don't love them.".
What mentality is that? OY VEY.

| 8. This story is not quite accurate... |

This came up in LBN a couple of days ago.
First of all, the bill in question is from a year ago, and did not become law.
Second, the notion that this is an "anti-gay" measure is the spin that particular gay activist website is putting on it. Actually, the purpose of the bill was to allow Roman Catholic health care workers to refuse to participate in abortion procedures. Unfortunately, the law was so vaguely worded that it basically gave any worker the right to deny non-emergency health care to anyone...which may well have been the reason that it failed in the long run.
It was a stupidly-written bill. But it doesn't mean that the Michigan Catholic Conference is putting its weight behind an attempt to deny gays health care. That was not the intention in any way.
