He was a light to many living in the dark of this world.

My comfort now is that his light is no longer confined to this earthly plane. May his blessed spirit be a beacon to those that yearn for peace and an end to strife.

2. Tonight I unearthed his photograph.

Years ago, one of my neighbors in Germany gave me a photograph of John Paul II. I am thinking of placing it on the door of my apartment.

3. My husband and I lit one for his soul tonight after Vigil Mass.

In 1985, my husband was able to be in Rome with a group of about forty people and they all attended one of the regular Wednesday audiences in St. Peter's Square. When the pope was being driven by the pilgrims in his little PopeMobile (PopeGOCart?), everyone near the rope line at the front of the crowd, including my husband, held out their right hand to him. Mr. Bones also held his camera with his left hand and snapped a photo of Il Papa when he was almost next to him -- and then the pope touched Mr. DB's hand! He was the only one in the group who had his hand touched and it made quite an impression on him. The photo is great, too!

That was four years after John Paul nearly died from being shot in a similar situation but he was still "braving" the crowds, though security had undoubtedly been beefed up.
