Just a reminder - John XXII was elected as a caretaker Pope

I guess you'd have to say he did die on schedule according to that theory, but I doubt anyone would consider him a "caretaker". I'm praying for the Holy Spirit to really grab those Cardinals.

1. I think this will be the case again.

Most of the men that have talked about are in their 70's.

John Paul II was only 59 when he became pope.

2. I truly think they will look for a preacher and pastor.

The Church has grown phenomenally in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and is in good shape diplomatically; I believe (and hope) that the conclave will choose someone with rich pastoral experience, as they did in John Paul I and John XXIII. I would look at Cardinal Neves of Brasil, Cardinal Arinze of Nigeria or Cardinal Tettamanzi of Genoa; all 3 have extensive pastoral experience. Long shots might be Cardinal Sin of the Phillipines and Cardinal Gantin of Benin.
