| According to MSM, by not electing pope on 1st vote, the cardinals 'failed' |
|
MSRNC's website calls it a 'failed vote,' and NPR and (forgive me, I was tempted) Faux said "Cardinals fail to elect pope."
So since the first vote didn't result in a new pope, the election was a failure, huh?
I know 24-hour news channels didn't exist in 1978, but they still need to realize that votes like these in which no candidate gets 2/3 of the vote are part of the process of electing the new pope. For someone to win on the first ballot would be like the US having a President-elect at 9 PM ET on election night. Imagine watching TV and seeing them announce, "It's 9:00 in Washington, and thus far America has failed to elect a President."
I guess I'm being picky, but sometimes I'm like that.
