| Insightful tidbit my priest told me today |
|
I went to confession and after he heard my confession, he told me something very insightful: that God doesn't act like a police state. He reiterated that we have free will, and can choose to obey or defy God if we want to. We just have to face the consequences after death.
I answered him back: Listening to some politicians, they'd have us think God's law does operate like a police state.

When I feel *hurt bad* by the actions of another, sometimes the only thing that gets me back to center ... NOT wishing to lash back at them is envisioning Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates.
Yes, both my actions and theirs. It's so hard to turn the other cheek, but as I get older, that image of Saint Peter is much more distinct and inspirational. ;)
Thanks for conveying your experience. I wish that American society, in general, would become more compassionate. We can dream can't we? :hi:
