Pope Benedict's red shoes

Newsweek published a picture of Pope Benedict featuring his handmade red leather Prada loafers. The article was discussing the fight over which fashion house gets the contract to tailor the papal vestments. I just can't get that picture out of my head. How much did those red loafers cost? I'm not saying the man has to wear sack cloth and ashes, but isn't it long past time for the Pope to stop living like a prince?

On a local level, why does the bishop have a chauffer while the 80 year old nun drives herself? Guess who has the more dependable car?
