I had to laugh at myself recently, when I realized that I still pray the Hail Mary (in my mind) exactly as I memorized it -- with the same strange words emphasized -- as a first grader, more than 40 years ago.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with THEE.
Blessed art THOU among women,
and blessed is the fruit of THY womb Jesus...

3. The rhythm of prayers is important, i.m.o.

Sorry to go slightly off track from your message, but I think that there is an important element to this; especially in devotions such as the rosary where one is repeating the Hail Mary whilst meditating. There are a couple of people at church who tend to say responses and prayers as quickly as possible which I find most distracting.

I don't tend to emphasise the "thee" "thou" type words as I nearly always pray in traditional English forms, and so they don't seem odd to me due to extensive use.

4. Your post reminded me of the Rosary prayed at my Mother's

Wake. The priest sped through the first half of the prayer like he had to get back to the Rectory in 15 minutes flat. After each of his rapid fire recitations, the strong, reverant and precise voice of my cousin who is a nun slowed the pace by at least 1/2.That was the way it went throughout each decade until the beads were kissed and put away. I drew no inference then or now as to which was more appropriate but your comment regarding tempo brought me back to thinking about the sad/happy celebration of the woman who gave me life and of whom I think of and miss everyday.
