Catholic here. Despite it's flaws, I love the Catholic Church and many of the best people I know are Catholics.
But interestingly, my mother's side of the family are Russian Orthodox. I even saw a divine liturgy presided over by the Russian Patriarch when I was younger.
So I fit well into this group.

It's not as active as some of the other DU groups, but we have some interesting posts here.
I've only been to an orthodox service once, a funeral, and it was beautiful.

I wish there were more activity in this group, because I find it to be a rare place of sanity and a safe refuge from the unabashed and simplistic religion-bashing in GD and R/T. I am proud to be a Catholic and proud of the Catholic tradition of social justice. God willing the rigid authoritarians will wane in power and be replaced by those who are willing to move the church to a more kind and Christlike message of love and peace rather than the politicized judgmental condemnations currently being offered by some vocal bishops we are seeing today.
I guess there will only be activity in this group if we make it happen, so I hope to see you around lots!

It's a very welcoming group - though (as other mention) not very active.

| 4. Fantatastic! Pull up a pew! |

I'd like to hear more from an Orthodox perspective. (Wait, they don't use pews, do they?)

for the most part, when you go to an Orthodox Divine Liturgy, you stand for the majority of the service. Only the elderly and the infirm sit.
I don't know if that is better or worse, because the pews in my Church are so uncomfortable that when we stand is a blessing. Don't even let me get started on the kneelers!
I haven't been to an Orthodox service in a while, but they are closer to the old school Tridentine rite Latin Mass than the modern Mass of Paul VI. The Priest faces away from you, there are choirs singing the responses...etc.
