| Fortieth Anniversary of Thomas Merton's Death |
|
When I first came to the faith, Thomas Merton's writings served as a counterbalance to my other theology readings (mostly Augustine and Aquinas). It helped me learn that not all of Catholicism is order and structure, that there is a more intuitive and almost chaotic expression of God's love for us and our love for God. To this day, I have to say New Seeds of Contemplation has probably been one of the most important books in my spiritual growth, even though I don't always quite understand it. I am thankful for Thomas Merton, but I regret that he died relatively young (like Aquinas, actually).
