DU is no place for me anymore. I'm on a hunt for sites that offer reasoned, balanced discussion on a variety of issues, not just Catholicism, and I've already found a few.

When I go to "liberal" sites I am inundated by the nasty conceit and arrogance of the anti-religion crowd.

When I go to Catholic sites I am inundated by the right-wing narrow-minded "more Catholic than the pope" jihadists.

Both of them make me sick - if you find somewhere that would be a safe haven for those of us who are both liberal AND spiritual, that would be incredible.

WildEyedLiberal, I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's also refreshing for me as an Orthodox Christian to find a group where the words Catholic and Orthodox go together. I am quite Catholic-friendly, as there are plenty of Catholics in my area and quite a few mixed Orthodox-Catholic families in my church, so I have no patience for (narrow-minded and hostile) anti-Catholic Orthodox believers and vice versa.

I'm transitioning from the Episcopal to the Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, and the anti liberal anti episcopalian mess gets grating at my new church. Just looking for a friendly place.

On edit: Within the past few weeks I've seriously considered giving up DU entirely myself, but I like a great many people here, and of course the Classic Film Group keeps me sane.
