| I love how hatred for the Passion has become a front for Christian bashing |
|
i have no problem with people who don't like the movie, but it's getting to a point where people are attacking it because it has to do with Christianity. It's almost sickening how people are so overjoyed whenever it is snubbed for an award. I loved the movie. I also have never cried harder then when watching it. It is a deeply moving and powerful movie and it's almost offensive when people use it to attack Christianity.

I bought the DVD, but frankly, I weep in church during the reading of the passion, so I am not sure if I can get through it.
On another note, have you seen the movie Mary? It is about the crucifixion as seen through Mary's eyes. Very moving, very powerful.
One of the reasons I am glad to be Catholic to be able to venerate the Blessed Mother. I can't imagine anything harder than watching your child being tortured like that.

I don't think it was true to his life. That said the woman who played the Virgin Mary was great! I love the Mother of God.

criticize the movie haven't seen it. You're right about the visceral hatred for the movie and for Mel Gibson: how DARE he make a movie about the Passion of the Christ? How dare people go to see it -- they ALL must be idiots and fundamentalists. It's sad how much some people hate Christianity and how much they stereotype Christians and anything religious.
The criticism started long before the movie came out, with many posts asserting it was anti-Semitic. One DUer said it was based on the Gospel of John and claimed John is completely anti-Semitic.
And then everyone said it was too gory, a snuff film. Pretty funny considering how many went to look at online video of beheadings, not to mention the violence we all see all the time on tv and in movies, not to mention video games.
There was even anger that church groups went to the movie, though I don't know what that anger was about. Oh, yes, they were convinced it would lead to hate crimes against Jews, that was it.
Basically, I think they're not happy in their own skins, they don't feel secure in their own atheism, agnosticism, or paganism, so they look for people to strike out at. You don't see the mature nonChristians making such posts.
