1. At least note that it was archived immediately

Probably as a sex thread, tho, since it has a certain "self-reference" meaning (and there are non-catholic bishops, too)

Damnit, I hate Anti-Catholicism, part of why we left the old country in teh first place, we were forced to feel like inferior beings in our own land, now America isnt a Catholic country but we came here thinkin we be accepted as equals.

3. The U.S. has a long history of

anti-catholicism. What you see on this "progressive" board is only the tip of the iceberg.

The thread on the pope's illness seems to be composed almost entirely of deleted posts or those that will be soon. A major share are from people who are exploiting it as an opportunity to bash John Paul II morally (as though they're out healing 2,000 years of problems in Jewish-Christian relations). Or the too-cool-to-care crowd makes snotty comments about him being on his deathbed.
Posts like those make me want to embrace misanthropy as a way of life. I kid you not.

7. I sent the mods an early alert on that one
|
I was one of the first to post there and saw where it was going. While alerting the mods to one message in particular, I told them that they needed to PULEEZE keep their eyes on this one, and it looks like they have. Someone has even commented about the number of deleted posts.
I was not going to see that one get out of hand. You don't poke fun at the illness -- or God forbid, imminent death -- of someone, no matter how much you disagree with him or what he stands for.
And I have come to the very sad conclusion that most of these folks who claim to be "with it" and "open minded" are no better than the "freepers" and "fundies" they deride; in many ways they are the modern-day Know-Nothings.

6. Darlin' that's a post from last July.

And I'm sure Dave didn't mean any ill-will toward Catholicism, it's a euphamism of sorts for self-gratification.
All that not withstanding, it is a pretty sad spectacle people create around the death of His Holiness. I'm inclined to agree with CHagman entirely.
