| Well... My Days with Paxil are Over |
|
and now I am on to Lexapro. Don't know much about it, so I would like to know if anybody is either taking it or has taken it in the past. And if so, how was or is it? Any bad side-effects I should watch out for?

| 1. I've been on it for seven months now... |
|
And several other family members are on it.
It works well in combination with other drugs (I'm also on Welbutrin), but at about 6-7 months out, shaking up the dosage is a good idea.
The only side effect I noticed is the typical SSRI sexual dysfunction, but taking welbutrin in combination alleviated that.

I will mention Wellbutrin to my doc. Sexual dysfunction with Paxil is really a buzz kill.

and sorry for not replying sooner. I get too caught up in the other forums that I forget to come back here. I'm now on my third day, and in all honesty I didn't feel good at all. On top of it, I called in sick today, which I've had to do on more than one occasion due to depression. Tomorrow, I plan on feeling better... and reading posts like yours gives me a bit of a positive outlook, so thank you!

I call it my happy pill, because it makes such a difference. I've been on it several years now. It seems to work exactly the opposite in the sex department than the problems some of the ADs usually have. And I haven't had to up the dose (I take 400 mg., down from 450)
About a year ago I switched from Prozac to Lexapro. It not only helps depression, but its an anti anxiety drug, too. I didn't think I'd notice the difference because I already take BuSpar for anxiety. Boy was I wrong.
The changes in me have small, but significant. I'm not as anxious and I've noticed I don't have the mood swings as much. And they're tiny mood swings, not like what I used to have.
The company that made Lexapro was Forest Laboratories. The owner's son suffered from chronic depression and he set out to find a better drug. They came up with Celexa, but then they found something better than that and we now have Lexapro that is also approved for anxiety disorders. Its very similar to Celexa, but much better.

| 6. This is Exactly What I Was Hoping For |
|
Because I have both depression and have had bad anxiety my whole life. Now I don't suffer from anxiety as much, but my mood and motivation are nill....
So I'm really hoping Lexapro helps with both... I want to live life, and not struggle as I have for so long. Thank you for replying to my thread. I will check back to let you all know how I'm doing. :hi:

| 7. I'd take it if I could manage the SEs |
|
My sister has had great success with Lex for her depression. I've tried it a few times for anxiety but I couldn't manage the sleep disruption it caused me. It is a decent modern drug as SSRIs go I think.

I have had that often with Paxil. So far it's been only 4 days... crossing fingers.
