I just ventured in GD again.
A very good day has suddenly become a black cloud of depression, anger, seething hatred, and fear.
I *know* other people's intense emotions affect me. So why do I go into GD ever????????

The rest of DU may be able to handle their drama addictions just fine, but mine causes me mental anguish. I must acknowledge this as an addiction and start to work on it.
Thanks, LP.

I can't believe I had an argument over whether or not Christians are human beings.
:scared:
I can't believe I took the bait. Sigh.

is that people are so humorless. It's like a Politburo meeting in there. I'm addicted to the Lounge. At least people try to be funny in there, even if they rarely suceed.:P

| 6. I read GD, but I rarely post there now |
|
When I first came to DU I posted there almost exclusively. Then I realized I really didn't have anything new to add. I've gotten into a few flame wars in GD and I know how that affects me mentally. I got in one that made me depressed for a couple of days afterward before. My suggestion is to try to avoid getting into to flame wars. If you see something that pisses you off, just let it slide instead of posting your reaction.

I think a lot of us are drawn to strong emotions, even negative emotions, because they make us feel alive - they make us feel SOMETHING. This is especially tempting if one is on the depressive side.
I really think I short circuited on my anger over the past year on this board and the election was just the final blow. I came to accept that I am not one of those people who can indulge in these things as much as a normal person because it is so personally damaging.
I like this group, I feel like I have found a haven in the storm of emotions out there.

that's thier crappy little game and it hurts people like us.I think humor may be the thing that brings the left together and thats about laughing at ourselves because we are strong enough. It becomes a baby debate over there with no diplomacy.Everytime i post something in G.D. i trash it because it seems preachy or jokey.
