| You really need Bang on a Can's new recording of Riley's "In C" |
|
Sublime! Has all the technical brilliance of Riley's original recording, but added with a lot of warmth and a generous helping of emotional outpouring.
It's a truly beautiful performance; enhanced, I think, by the marimba, which is an instrument that I love, esp. in music like Steve Reich's, that famous african-american jazz guy who's name is utterly escaping me right now, and in this performance.
(And when I say "new", I mean "like a year old or so, I can't remember")

is Gary Burton but he is not african-american I don't think. Lionel Hampton? He played the vibraphone. Just chiming in here, I have limited knowledge of jazz and mallets.
Sounds like an interesting recording. Thanks, you always have great ideas of what to listen to. :hi:

| 2. Lionel Hampton! He's the one I was thinking of. |

Thanks!
Vibraphone, marimba - they're pretty close. :-)
