Here's a shot of a two-foot long cottonmouth moccasin that I recently ran across on a trail in Louisiana. It acted bigger than its britches.

Why do those snakes always behave that way? Almost any other will hightail it out of there when confronted by a human, but cottonmouths always think they can take us on-even the little ones! Sometimes I need to take a stick with me when I'm out here walking in Florida just to beat the little buggers off!

14. This was my first cottonmouth to behave in this manner.

I have been told that this is a bluffing display. I shot it with a zoom, but was only about 8 feet away. I finally gave this one the trail and went back from whence I had come.

Here is a shot of an egret taken at Manatee Springs, Fla.. I got quite close and the bird didn't seem to mind, so I suspect this was a tourist egret. Some people say that various states have these tourist animals that are kept around just so tourtists can take pictures. I have a few of aligators that I took in Louisiana, and some moose pictures that I took in Maine.

11. no such thing as tourist egrets -- that's the real thing!

Egrets are naturally very confiding birds that frequently allow you to get very close. Their little feet are not glued to the bottom of the swamp or anything. They are not tamed by anyone. They just tend to have very calm nerves. It is completely natural and no one trains them to be that way.

Maybe if I get over my bashfulness I'll post some of my egret pictures. They are actually very rewarding birds to practice on since they tend to hold still and let you get close.

A friend of mine saw this picture and commented that in some cultures the egret symbolizes spirituality.

I should have inserted a smiling smiley to indicate that I was making a joke.

10. Colorado

This waterfall is on the road from Buena Vista to the ghost town,
St. Elmo. In August, 2004.



This tree is on the same road, 5 miles in the opposite direction.
November 2003.



This one was taken in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.
I think. I did a lot of hiking at lots of different places in
August '03, so I might be confused on location.

15. Evidently, for the picture to be embedded...

...the url must end in a graphic format (.jpg, .gif, etc). I had the same problem with a url that ended like yours.
