Anyone have any lightning tips?

Thunderstorm season is fast approaching here, and I've got mountains that get hit right out my back door.

Is it luck? Or are there tricks?

1. There are some short tutorials

on the web. Basically you want to hold the aperture open for as long as needed to accumulate the number of flashes that make a photo. But not so long that whatever landscape detail is present gets washed away. A slow film speed setting gives you more time, and a tripod is a real good idea. Try these links for more detail:
