Using an LED flashlight for still life..

I got a fairly nice LED flashlight yesterday for $1.99 at the computer store, thought I would try illuminating a few shots with it..

Fifteen seconds at f13 and ISO 200 while waving the flashlight around to evenly illuminate the roses..

Were you in total darkness when you took this, except of course for the LED?

2. No, it was pretty dim but I could still see in color..

Fairly low ISO combined with a small aperture made it work..

I moved the flashlight around quite a bit to avoid sharp shadows.. It took several tries to keep the center from being overexposed, I "painted" around the edges a lot with the flashlight, the center was properly exposed by the outside edge of the beam as I moved it around the sides of the bouquet.

Edited to add: I used a black sheet for the background.

I have seen some similar stuff done with much bigger subjects outside, but not always this successful.

4. Gorgeous composure and a fascinating look -

In a way, with the absence of shadows, and none of the usual variations in light, this reminds me of the doll that looks like a real child, but on second look is unsettlingly "different".
It's not at all a critical statement, it is one of wonderment. I hope it makes a little sense.
The striation in the red roses is phenomenal.

6. That's a really good effect

I like how the lack of shadows gives it almost a 3D effect, more like a sculpture than a photo, and really shows up the details of the roses.

the LEDs, but it really works to your advantage here.
