Question Re: Digital Camera Battery Life

I just got a Kodak digital camera, 5 megapixels and whatnot. I used the crappy double-A lithium batteries it came with it and the batteries are already low! Are there any good types of batteries that won't crap out on me like that?

Standard alkalines will drain quickly.

At least in their high end equipment, they use only CMOS chips, which are tons more efficient in terms of power use.

3. You'll get more battery life if you don't use the live view

the live view eats batteries. If you want more battery life you can turn off live view and use the viewfinder just like you would with a normal camera. I'm used to the viewfinder anyway so I don't really like using the live view screen anyway.

5. Yeah, the LCD screen just eats up power

I also recommend rechargable batteries. We have two sets that we swap in and out in our camera in the lab. We have shot thousands of shots over the last two or three years with just two sets of Nickel Metal Hydride cells.

I looked at the batteries they gave me - and they were alkaline! Kodak was being cheap...I got lithium ones and they work a lot better.

OK the battery for my D2H is BIG, well to be truthful the camera is a lot bigger than I thought it would be.



I am loving digital more and more. I have my new D2H and a 1 yo Nikon 4300 pocket camera. I am loving the things I can do fast. I was reading this thread and wanted a picture of my D2H battery, and within 5 minutes had it uploaded to a photo hosting site. Sweeeeeeet.... :bounce:

8. Upgrade path

went from 5400 CP nikon to D70.
The DSLR batteries are amazingly long lasting.
And I chimp a lot...

7. I had the same experience with Kodak and their cheap ass batteries

I called them up right away and asked them why they sent me bum batteries in the first place and some person from Guam or some other outsourced place told me to just go buy some more! Great advice. So I said, "I already tried to buy more but the stores here don't carry your batteries" and they responded that I could buy them online.

I literally laughed in the person's face. I said, "Don't you understand that Americans are NOT going to wait a couple days for some damn batteries in the mail?!"

But the person barely spoke English so my remarks went by the wayside.

I returned the Kodak after doing some research and finding out they are champion outsourcers. I bought a Canon A75 and as the poster above pointed out, the battery function is much more efficient. I, too, use rechargeables. They recharge in as little as 90" on my recharger so I haven't even bothered to get a second set.

Also, I found the Canon's technical writing and documentation to be far superior to Kodak's.

Realllllly glad I dumped that Kodak early in the game.
