I agree about the no horizon, too...
I did a similar thing in my wave photo...

It makes it very surreal.

I don't know what the horizon looked like, but it looks to me like removing it was beneficial. WJMS ended up with a nice abstracted look this way. Jackson Pollack on Ice?

Much rather deal with snow than ice though ice does give you some great things to shoot. You captured it well.
