| 1. I just ordered a Lumix |

DMC FZ-100. I am hoping I like it better than my Canon, which I think is just kind of meh.
Very nice photo, by the way.

| 3. I don't know which Canon you use, but I've been using the PowerShot SX 200 IS |

and it seems fine for some things. This LX model, which is the one they were selling at Costco, isn't a true LX-7, but something less than the LX-7; essentially, the LX-7 without the GPS mode.
It has an inexpensive Leica lens, which I suppose makes a difference.
Thanks for the compliment; I'd have added this to the "water shots I didn't use" thread, but didn't want to kick a post that already had 30 responses/photos. :D

| 5. I have a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS |
|
I really never learned all its capabilities, but I've tried various modes and still I have to do more minor editing with it than I do my basic Kodak pocket camera that is over four years old. I'm not completely unhappy with it at all. I just have various issues with it that may or may not be helped with a different camera--low light is an issue, especially the auto focusing. In any case I am looking forward to the new camera because it has 24x optical zoom AND rapid repeat. My Canon now seems to take forever between shots--not a good feature for bird photography!! I don't want the hassle of interchangeable lenses. I read that this one has a different lens you can actually surround the regular lens with to make it zoom even more, and then add a tripod.
In any case, my husband and I bought our own Christmas presents. I will have the new camera and he has a new fishing reel. Yes, reels are not cheap.
Anyway, your photo gives me some encouragement, because I don't think my Canon could produce that photo without a good deal of editing.

Too bad it's too late for water. Or is it?

| 4. Thanks NV Whino; I'd have posted to the "shots I didn't use" thread |
|
but I didn't want to kick a thread that already had 30 posts/photos (loading time for slower connections).
I don't do the contests anymore; so many good photographers here and I feel more comfortable saving the slots for them (and probably more importantly, there's that whole "hosting next month's contest if you actually win" thing that goes with it). :D
Thanks for the compliment; I added a new monitor because my other one burned out, so I'm gonna' have to do some side-by-sides for myself to see what difference it makes.
I haven't calibrated this one yet, so who knows what you're all actually seeing. :D

| 6. All I know is that this is very beautiful. |

I like the still water, and the clarity, yet one can barely make out where reality ends and reflection begins.
I wish you had entered it, and don't like you don't want to take part in the contests any more. I understand your reasoning, but you can always hope for second place, no?

I really prefer posting in the regular threads; the way I see it, if I'm not willing to host the following month, then I don't want to take a slot.
Perhaps if I ever come up with a shot I am so completely happy with that it overcomes my reticence to host (and that I think has a real chance of placing first) I'll do it.
Neither of those is likely to happen. :D
Your entry is quite lovely, and this whole contest has some amazing photos. There are some really skilled photographers posting in this group!

| 8. Turns out I didn't even know what my wife's camera was; a DMC DS-6...not an LX-7 |

for a few years. Check the lens to see if it has Leica branded glass.

| 10. I knew it had a Leica lens; I just had the model wrong. |
|
I attribute the difference to that Leica lens. The Canon does fine for many things, but this Panasonic Lumix just seems better.
Plus; it doesn't have the mechanical glitches of the 200 SX IS.
