The interesting thing about the finals is that the entire landscape changes as a general rule. Some that were way popular often fall way behind.
What happens, I think, is that not all people vote in all three threads. Suddenly they have new ones to consider!
Or the sheer fact that the frontrunners of the threads are side to side for the first time, allows the voters to weigh them against each other in a whole new way.

It's a fun game and a learning experience and the excitement grabs me every time.
