Canyon Lake Gorge formed during a flood event in July 2002. Over 89 cm of rain fell in the upper part of the Guadalupe River Watershed in approximately one week causing tremendous flooding.
Canyon Lake was in danger of overflowing the dam, so they let water out thru the spillway, and in a matter of days, had formed Canyon Gorge.
A true treasure was "unearthed":
•Dramatic Vistas
•Hidden Valley Fault (within the Balcones Fault Zone)
•Geologic Formations
•Beautiful Lagoons and Waterfalls
•Trinity Aquifer in Action
•Biologic Succession
•Numerous Seeps and Springs
•110 million year old Dinosaur Tracks
•Extensive Marine Fossil Diversity
•Hydraulic Dynamics of Glen Rose Limestone
