Some HDRs:
Edited on Sun Mar-06-11 09:02 AM by Itchinjim
I've been playing around with Photomatrix's trial version, and I'm kind of up in the air about HDR. If it's done well, it can be spectacular, if done wrong, it just looks like over-processed crap. But I do like the way it brings out detail. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy the full version so please ignore the watermarks.

1. Some look really dramatic. I have an HDR plugin and I found
that applying Auto White Balance right after HDR adds punch. A light touch with the cartoon filter can give some similar effects like you see on the second bridge and the last image. HDR does skies so well.

The boathouse door reminds me of the colors on Acid.

I am a firm believer in the denial of reality.

2. Tell us more about the program
Does it simply manipulate a single exposure, or does it use multiple shots and combine?

5. I've been using three 3-step bracketed shots...
It combines the them and then lets me tone-map the results. Like I said, I'm still playing with it to see what it can do before I buy.

I haven't used Photomatrix, will have to check that out.

I have used a plugin called Topaz Adjust for HDR, it manipulates a single image.

4. I'm playing around with some trial versions myself - trying to decide.
I like the last one best. 3rd one is my 2nd favorite.

6. I'm not entirely sold on HDR but I got to admit....
I love the way it can make details pop out.

I'm lovin some G'MIC filters. I DL'd it last night, installed in in GIMP. Just started using it today.

9. Here's a couple I just tried
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 04:27 PM by NV Whino
This is out of PhotoShop CS4. This is a combo of normal and ±2 in exposure, three frames.

This is Photomatix

A world of difference.

10. That is a good HDR.
Others I find way too artificial.

11. Yeah, I don't like the ones that have been pushed too far
Photomatix gives you options to push this and that and then a couple that look pretty natural. I chose the one that looked most natural rather than the default they showed me first. My goal was to bring up the sky and keep the foreground bright.

13. HDR is interesting,
Edited on Sat Mar-12-11 11:38 PM by Blue_In_AK
but I don't think I'm ready to jump into it yet. I'm too much of a realist, I guess. :) Your examples are quite lovely though.
