It's about focus and the brilliant color of a pretty boy - 7 photos I think
I was sitting in the corner close by when I noticed a spot of color behind the chair.

Still focusing on the chair but the color got more vivid

Now focusing through the chair on the object behind

It's a ravenous cardinal cleaning up after the squirrel

Then he just showed his pretty boy face and smiled

The other profile

And a gentile nod for "Adieu"

2. Aw
Love the progression of the photos.

At least your injury came with spring approaching, and you can use your considerable photographic talents in the backyard!

3. THAT is the closest I have been to a cardinal. Great closeup of him!
We have them all over the place, but you really brought this guy "up close and personal".

weird looking fellows, I still think.

11. I like there calls in my window at six, I like they mate for life. I feel sad when one is lost and
for days you hear the call, where are you and why no answers, just sad....

12. I built a little haven for the cardinals -
I greased the poles on which their feeders hang with vaseline and keep only the one feeder with the circles accessible to the squirrels, who slide off the greased poles with the most puzzled looks on their faces.

ALWAYS when I see a cardinal, the mate is nearby.
I sometimes have 5 pairs or so on my deck at the same time. They are skittish, and see me even through the window blinds and take off. But for some reason the one I'm featuring just let me take his photo from about 8 or so feet away while I was just sitting in the chair and moving nothing but my "trigger" finger on the camera.

15. F'ing cardinals. lol

Great photos and love the way you slowly focused in on him. Specially love that you caught the light and definition in his eye in 5, 6 and 7. I think 6 is my favorite and a great portrait. I also really like the way you caught the chair in 2.

Edited to add- My cardinals are in a territorial mood these days. The females are chasing off the other females while the males chase off the other males. I had at least 4 of each fighting over the deck territory this afternoon.

20. I love Mocking Birds...
even if they are the bane of cats everywhere. Also gotten attached to their cousin the Cat Bird. TY for not trimming you hedge and giving them a place to live and breed. Now to get photos of them though hard to do when they are having their territorial fights.

22. Oh what super great photos, and I love
your story.

I did see a cardinal in my yard the other day, and yes I had my camera, but he was too shy. But I'm a patient person, and I've got all summer! ;-)
