* * * Important announcement regarding the June contest * * *
Edited on Sat Jun-04-11 04:33 PM by Blue_In_AK
I've made up my mind. The topic will be "Geology," broadly interpreted. This can include anything from a macro of a rock to a panorama of the Grand Canyon, anything showing the physical forces of the earth -- glacial morraines, canyons, sand dunes, volcanos, whatever -- or just a cool-looking rock. I would like to try blind submissions again, because I thought it was a lot more fun not knowing who submitted what. I'm going to relax the rule and say it's okay to use a photo that you might have posted here, as long as it was more than three months ago, i.e., prior to March 4. There will be no "help me choose my entry" polls.

I have a friend coming up from San Francisco next week, so I won't start taking entries until June 18. Hopefully, it won't take more than three or four days to get 30 entries, and then I'll get the polls up as quick as possible so we can try to get the contest finished before the end of the month.

Happy shooting. :)

1. sounds good. I hope I can get an entry in this time
I had a backlit entry but I had already shown it in the Lounge and then it was pretty much cloudy around here last month.

I like the theme ...

thanks BIA

2. Excellent!
There is no geology to speak of locally, well, not easily or dramatically photographed geology, anyways.

But I can use the time to weed out the 98% of my archives that does work!

Besides, it's too hot to go outside... B-)

4. Great. Here we live on what was a shallow ocean 450 million years ago.

7. All the way down. They say it is why we grow such good horses here. That
Limestone water makes for good strong bones. The rocks can be rather fossiliferous, but every now and then you can find complete Isotelus, or enrolled flexicalymene In highway cuts.

11. They are trilobites. I don't have any good images handy.

Isotelus
Images from the web.

Flexicalymene. Much smaller than your average Isotelus.

but you could give it a try, I guess. :P

10. Ha! There is no doubt in my mind,

as much as I have loved "Geology" over OH SO MANY years, I could tear my hair out and spend tons of time in my files with this marvelous theme. Especially since it is so inclusive.

Instead, I'll probably set a timer and pick a personal favorite, and declare it done.
Especially since I can't run a daily 10 item "help me narrow it down" poll.
I feel about rocks and geology in general as passionately as Celebration does about "back lit".

I'm happy and excited about this theme. Not so much about entering, but to see the photos.

edited to add:
since I was talking to you Blue, I remembered to check on Sofia et al, and did. Now I all but want to drive to the store and find some Mangoes.
What a fun shoot of Aiman and the Mango!

13. Great theme Blue, especially
since you are relaxing the geology definition.

I think I've got several good photos that would qualify that I recently took on my vacation.

The blind submissions are a good idea, and seemed to work very well during last months contest.

14. Just wondering . . .
. . . given the vast nature of the topic, would anyone like to consider discussing relaxing the size limitation to allow for panoramas?

15. I'll leave that to the group to decide,
but would that create an issue with me transferring it to my PhotoBucket account before posting? Doesn't PhotoBucket automatically resize?

16. I've had Pans in photobucket before.
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 07:22 PM by Richard D
but for sure, it's for the group to discuss and decide.
Not that I have a fantastic panorama I'd love to enter, or anything like that. Just totally speaking hypothetically, of course.
No ulterior motive here . . . nope, none at all.

I just don't want to push my idea on the group.

20. Its not a bad idea but size
limits tend to distract from panoramas. Even with expanding the length and file size it would still have to be pretty small (losing detail) if it was with a lot of other photos. Not sure who used to post a few panoramas that had a link to a larger one. For me the larger one was always better to look at. Just my 2 cents and not even worth that much. :)
