iPhone4 or Leica M9? Can you tell the difference?
Here are some images taken at a rural get together. Can you tell what camera was used?

http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2011/06/13/essex-young-farmers-annual-show-–-leica-m9-vs-iphone-4-your-hometown-by-roy-strutt/

The answer is at the bottom of the page.

1. I took some pic with my iPod
but haven'y figured out how to get them on my computer without sending them to myself by e-mail. they look good on the pod. Just want to look at them on my computer.

2. You can do it when you sync the iPod. They should appear in
iPhoto (if you have a Mac.) Don't know about other platforms. It shouldn't be too hard on the PC.

3. On a PC
when you plug your iPod in to sync you should get dialog box similar to the one you get if you plug in a flash drive. Just click the view files button then select and drag them to a folder.

21. That's what I expected
But it doesn't seem to work that way on a Mac.

4. Really good post
He did have really optimal conditions for shooting iPhone shots, great lighting goes a long way.

I frequently shoot with the iPhone when I'm shooting with another camera, usually with the Leica D-Lux 4 but I have on occasion got my hands on an M9 but with the 35mm Summilux 1.4 so you see quite a bit of difference in the two especially if the available light is dropping off.

8. Yes.
My favorite ick - blown out whites were in the "better" photos. And the colors in #9 were not great.

7. I guessed wrong
But it still wouldn't stop me from getting a M9 if I could afford it. I might be able to trade a kidney to get the camera but I'd have to start robbing banks to get the optics for it. I've seen prints taken with the M9 and they blew me away.

That said, I still embrace using lo-tech cameras, which includes cell phone cameras. A fun contest theme for down the road would be 'Lo-Tech'. No DSLRS. And no digital cameras over 3/5 megapixels. Just point & shoot film/digital pics.

9. I found my old Samsung 35mm pocket camera. It was pretty good.
I'd love to have an old TLR like the Yashica D.

11. Really,
On a computer screen it's not all that important. Blow it up to 30x40 or probably even 8x10 and there would be differences that would increase greatly the larger the blow-up.

12. I'd venture to say that very few blow up images beyond 8X10
I print very little now.

15. Not really an issue
There are some very good iPhone apps that correct noise. Actually in the past few months there have been some pretty significant improvements in editing apps to the point I now do most iPhone photo correction on the phone and I just use the computer for resizing and to double check the color with the printer profiles.

22. I'd say try it . . .
Amazing to see a beautiful shot blown up large and on a wall. Different feel than on a computer screen. Especially if you get it printed on canvas and nicely framed. Obviously an expensive proposition, so only reserved for a few of the best of the best in my world.
