1. That's what I call mine. And what my son calls me. She is beautiful, and so is the portrait..

So, how's your German?

[alfredo]

3. Not very good. The language died with dad. He was a stubborn

kid and would not speak English in classes he didn't like. He'd cuss out the teachers in German until he got a teacher that understood what he was calling her. He said he had the "German beat out of him." In the few years preceding my birth, having German heritage was not that popular here. So our Armenian surname became our public front, but culturally, we are German.


Dipping Springerle in milk is my vision of heaven.

I come from a Matriarchal family. Growing up the women in the family were the final authority. Some of us are (still) very much our mother's daughters. :)

of character in that face.

And oh gosh . . . haven't heard the word Mutti in a long time. We'd call our mom that from time to time. My parents would speak German all the time at home!

8. She's the mother of six very intelligent kids. I married the

artistic middle child. She has German Jew heritage with some French Creole mixed in. Her family appears to have entered the US through Louisiana.

She's had a very good life. Beyond being a mother of six, she worked as a Biologist for the VA.

Now reminded of my German grandmother, that was somewhat of a matriarch herself.

We all called her "Chief". And she loved the nickname! :rofl:

(Some) people say I am stubborn, but I disagree.
