A visit to Henry Clay's home (Ashland) in Lexington, Ky

I haven't shot jpg on this camera so I decided to give it a try. Again I am using a 40 to 50 year old lens. I am starting to like it.

This is a lovely estate. One of my friends helped retore this home.



This is his smokehouse. On either side are carriage houses. It was Monday so it was closed.

Another view of the front. Image framed by a Gingko tree. All Gingko in this region probably come from the trees he planted. As you walk around you will find yourself checking to see if you stepped on dog shit, but it is just the aroma of the Gingko.

Love the root cellar.

2. It's a good place to visit on a hot day. I wish it would have

been open so I could have snapped a few from the bottom.

8. Every now and then a servant would pump up the pressure. It's a good

set up. The tank was 40 to 50 yds away from the house, just to be safe.

9. I enjoyed reading about the cellar too. How long things would stay cold/frozen.

From a thoroughly modern perspective...all amazing.

10. Hopefully long enough to get them through the winter and

early spring. A lot of root crops will last the winter. The cellar is deep enough to be below the frost line. (18 inches in Kentucky)

5. That is one beautiful building.

Just beautifully proportioned, and I love the coins.

6. This is a pretty little town. When I was a kid mom and dad

visited relatives that lived there. I remember telling myself that some day I would live there. It was so green and lush. It was a world away from my mean ugly, corrupt, redneck town.
