last night (ok actually early this morning,about 2am) I was up and saw it was clear out so I thought I'd try something. I took my 300mm lens ans a 2x teleconverter outside and pointed it at jupiter to see what happened.

heres a different exposure. the moons arent visible but the clouds of jupiter are






these are trhe exposure times
#1 1/50 at f5.6 iso 3200
#2 1/10 f5.6 at iso 800
#3 1/1000 at f5.6 iso 800
#4 1/1000 at f5.6 iso 800 but slightly different Post processing

there was no way i was able to get the clouds and the moons in a single exposure.. Maybe if I tried stacking images but I would need an image stackign program that works on a mac and even then since jupiter is moving across the sky,although slowly without some kind of clock drive Im not sure what success i would have

1. Very good. That image looks like peering through my 10 inch dob @200X

2. i have an old scope

that i havent had out in years. I may get a new adapter and haul it out and try dome digital shots. the last time i had it out was in the pre digital days.

3. I have put my scope on permanent loan to a friend because

my injury prevents me from lifting it. I am not allowed to lift anything over 30lbs, the tube alone weighs more.

The red one in the background looks just like mine. It's a Coulter 10.1" 4.5 Dobsonian. The Dob is great in that it collects a lot of light. You get a lot of bang for the buck. Still, if you get into Astro photography you need a drive.
