Is this a forum more for gamers, or animators (or both)?

I'm a 2D After Effects animator & I'm getting trained in Maya in 2 weeks. That'll be my 2nd training in a 3D app if you count Frost. I was trained on Frost for work and then we did nothing with it.

Maya and After Effects, anyone else here use these? I'm excited about the training.

1. More for viewing and appreciation of animated films

I believe there is a group more oriented towards the artisitic end of computer created work.

Just as an aside I used to do support for Alias Design Tools. Same company that created Maya. Course my experience is purely from the techie support side. No experience in design or animation myself.

2. Well, I'm an animator

worked for Disney during the "second golden age" (Mermaid through Lion King). Now I mostly work as a freelance illustrator, since 2D is pretty much dead these days. :-(
