| Is there any problem with InuYasha? |
|
My wife won't let my 11 year old daughter watch it.
She was complaining about violence and "somebody trying to get into somebody's pants".
I've watched it a few times and I don't see the problem. The violence isn't any worse than most other anime eg. Dragonball Z.

| 1. Well...one character is always trying to cop a feel |
|
off the main female character. People do die in the show, so... YMMV. It's nothing I'd be upset over, but then again I'm not a parent. Then again, my mom let me see horror films from the day I was born and I turned out...errrrr..alright, I guess. ;-)
(Well, I've had my problems, but nothing that relates to violence or treating women with disrespect. ;-) )

| 2. Other than the fact that it's boring? |

I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact as far as violence goes it's probably one of the tamer Takahashi animes.

| 3. It's boring because... |

it has been turned into a soap opera. The whole story could be told in one movie. Very annoying.
Symbolically, you have a half-demon in love with an underage girl running around in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit. Also a Monk that likes to cop a feel on every other girl/woman in the storyline not trying to kill him. There's a joke somewhere in there about Catholic Priests, but I'm not going there...
The gore is not as graphic as typical anime, but there is gore and dismemberments on a regular basis.
My Ten year old knows not to watch it. (He doesn't like blood)

Japanese audiences tend to expect their children to be able to handle more complex concepts. Sex and death are not nearly the taboo they are here.
In Inuyasha there is a growing relationship between the two main characters. But more than likely she is concerned about one of the side characters Miroku the Monk.
In Japanese culture Monks are not celebate. Though they are expected to maintain high moral standards it is not their primary function. Thus there is a tradition of naughty monks that occurr in popular culture there. Miroku is just such a naughty monk. He is either fighting evil or goosing women.
Another factor that could be an issue is that nudity is not treated as the same taboo as it is here in the west. Particularly when Rumiko Takahashi is doing the writing. Much of her humor derives from the discomfort of growing love constrasted with physical attraction and social constraints. Thus there are often cases where one walks in on another and is embarrased to catch them in the altogether.
