A beatuful well drawn series.
The story starts out with a girl with psychokinetic powers that can cut through almost anything. She escapes the lab, where she was kept, killing almost everyone in her path. While she escapes, she is shot and falls into the ocean. Afterwards, she is found Kouta on the beach. After that, everything goes, well "splat."

My friend and I made the mistake of watching the first episode of Elfen Lied on my laptop in the student union. People gave us funny looks :rofl:

If you're going to watch a sereis about a psychopathic psychic with a split personality, then yes, they're going to give you weird looks.
